Volunteer firefighter killed combating Esperance blaze recognized

The volunteer firefighter killed whereas responding to an out-of-control bushfire close to Esperance on Tuesday has been recognized as Harry Stead.

It’s understood Stead, 21, was fatally injured after falling from a non-public firefighting car whereas conducting hearth suppression actions on a farm.

The 2020 Hale College graduate was the son of distinguished farmer Simon Stead, who’s the chairman of CBH Group.

A WA Police spokesman stated authorities have been investigating the reason for the hearth and the circumstances round Stead’s demise.

“Right now, it’s believed the person was responding to a hearth on a neighbouring farming property utilizing a non-public hearth equipment,” he stated.

“The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the person’s demise, together with his involvement within the response to the hearth, is ongoing.

“Arson Squad detectives will journey from Perth immediately to proceed with the investigation.”

The Division of Fireplace and Emergency Providers is providing welfare help to the shire and native volunteer brigades within the area.
